Victron Cerbo GX Installation and Remote Monitoring

The Victron Cerbo GX is the hub that ties a Victron system together. It talks to the inverter/charger, MPPT solar controllers, battery monitor and lithium battery management, shows everything on one screen and, with VRM, lets you check the boat from your phone. We fit it, wire it to your equipment and set up the monitoring so it is useful from day one.

What is a Victron Cerbo GX? It is a small control and communications unit rather than a charger or inverter. On its own it does nothing; connected to the rest of your Victron kit, it becomes the place you read battery state of charge, solar yield and shore power, and where settings can be adjusted.

We are a Victron installer working from Shoreham Airport and fitting systems aboard at the berth, from Brighton to Southampton. The same work applies to campervans and motorhomes with Victron equipment.

Do I need a Victron Cerbo GX?

Not every system does. If you have a single solar controller and a battery monitor, the VictronConnect app over Bluetooth may tell you all you need. A GX device earns its place when several Victron products need to share information, when you want remote monitoring while away from the boat, or when a lithium battery needs to control charging sources directly. We look at what is fitted and tell you plainly whether it is worth adding.

What the installation covers

The Cerbo is mounted somewhere dry and accessible, powered through its own fuse, and connected to each device with the correct cable: VE.Direct for smaller controllers and monitors, VE.Bus for inverter/chargers, VE.Can or BMS-Can for larger controllers and compatible batteries. A touch display can be added at the chart table or helm. We then name each device, check readings against a meter and set alarms that make sense for your bank.

Victron VRM remote monitoring

VRM is Victron's online portal. Once the Cerbo has an internet connection, from marina Wi-Fi, a router on board or a mobile data connection, it reports to VRM so you can see battery voltage, state of charge and charging history from home. Alerts can warn you of a low battery or a lost shore supply. We set up the VRM installation, add you as the owner and show you how to read the dashboard.

Cost and the written quote

How much a Cerbo GX installation costs depends on how many devices it connects to, cable runs, whether a display is wanted and whether the rest of the system needs tidying first. We assess the boat and give you a written quote before any work begins, and we can fit a unit you have already bought.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Victron Cerbo GX?

It is Victron's communication centre. It connects your Victron chargers, inverter, solar controllers and battery monitor so you can see and adjust them in one place, locally or through VRM.

How much is a Victron Cerbo GX installation?

It depends on the equipment it connects to and the cable runs on your boat. We look first and give a written quote before starting.

Do I need a Cerbo GX for remote monitoring?

For VRM remote monitoring you need a GX device and an internet connection. Bluetooth apps only work when you are near the equipment.

Can you replace an old Color Control GX?

Yes. We can swap an older Color Control GX for a Cerbo GX and reconnect the existing devices.
